Students Deliver SAWA-Inspired Circular Escape Rooms!
December 21, 2021
Last week, students from the Libanon Lyceum in Rotterdam Nice Developers to present the Circular Escape Rooms. Over the past 10 weeks, the students have been studying circularity and sustainability for their Technology and Application (T&T) course. They started in October this year with a visit to Nice Developers Nice Place, where they were given a presentation about SAWA and the circular and sustainable elements in the 'Healthiest building in the Netherlands'. They then set to work themselves with second-hand materials they found in thrift stores for their Circular Escape Room.
The delivery of the Escape Rooms took place on December 16 at the Libanon Lyceum. Together with Geertjan Aleven from Stichting Technotrend (the originators of the assignment), we received the Circular Escape Rooms. One group per class was selected to present their Escape Room.
The first group had outlined a scenario where SAWA's construction plans were stolen, and we had to find them as quickly as possible. Another Escape Room had the theme of an ongoing earthquake, requiring us to escape SAWA quickly. The puzzles included riddles, numerical codes, and secret envelopes that needed to be found and solved.
The Escape Rooms presented all highlighted the circular aspects of the building, and the puzzles were constructed from second-hand – circular – materials. This was an effective application of the themes of circularity and sustainability, and Mark Compeer of Nice Developers was Nice Developers impressed with the students' approach and results.
